Pork Up! New Rafute score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I decided to go back to Rafute and try and improve my score today. The result is the below score: 177,568,390.

The world record with Rafute is 233 million, which I consider to be the most impressive among the world records for this game in the 1 loop course (for reference, the record with Momo is 260 million, while with Ikuo it is 250 million). I can see how it would be possible to get a few tens of millions of points beyond my score (up to 210 million or so), but trying to find 56 million extra points is beyond me.

In regard to my own patterns, I made very few mistakes with them in this run. I did fail to score with the lard attack on the final phase of the last boss, but I scored on all other phases and milked the final phase with three bombs.

Pork Up! New Ikuo score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I'm getting very close to 200 million now with my latest score of 197,805,400.

Once again I flubbed the last two phases of the last boss, failing to score on both of them. Not sure why I keep screwing those up, but perhaps in my next run I'll get them right. A poor Stage 3 (missed scoring on the midboss) and other various errors kept my goal of 210+ million at bay.

Pork Up! New Ikuo score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I'm still working toward 200+million in Ver 1.00 with Ikuo. Today I inched closer with a new a new PB of 194,361,530.

There were a number of spectacular failures in this run, including, but not limited to:

-A chain break right before the Stage 3 midboss, costing me at least 5 million (maybe as much as 7). I was very close to hitting the reset button at this point.
-Poor milking of the stage 3 boss
-A chain break in the second to last part of Stage 5, costing me several million
-Poor milking of the last curtain phase of enemies (due to a lack of spare lives)
-Failure to score with the lard attack on the last two phases of the last boss (costing an estimated 5 million total)

On the other hand, I probably did my best Stage 4 ever, ending that stage with 139 million (I began the stage with 77 million), having perfectly milked the boss on all phases.

Anyway, 200 million should, hopefully, not be much of a problem, and so my sights are firmly set on 210+ million, which I think I can do sooner than I anticipated. I wish I had more time to play the game -- if I'm lucky I can squeeze in 1-2 credits a day. I'm just too busy with work these days.

Pork Up! New Ikuo score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I gave Ikuo a credit today in Ver 1.00 and thankfully came out with a new PB of 188,339,570.

As usual, there were many errors in this run, the most costly being the final phase of boss 4 which I mistimed and killed too early with the regular shot instead of the lard attack. I did the same thing on the first Stage 5 midboss. Both errors combined cost me an estimated 7-8 million. Stage 5 was subpar in general and some more errors were spread across other sections of the run. Stage 3 was one of the few highlights: it went better than usual, though still far from optimal.

The good news is I can already see a clear path to 200 million, and with some more adjustments I think I could do 210 million at some point, so I'll mark that as my new goal.

Pork Up! New Ikuo score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Matsuri Ver)

I hadn't played Matsuri Ver for about a week, choosing instead to focus on improving my Ver 1.00 scores. Well, today I was not making any progress with Ver 1.00, so I gave Matsuri a few credits with Ikuo. I ended up getting a new PB of 244,973,180.

This run was not without flaws, however. I missed about 2 million in stage one, finishing with a bit over 28 mil instead of 30.6 mil which I had achieved on the previous run. I also missed two scoring spots on the Pink Sweet bosses, costing me an estimated 4-5 million. The last boss was not very cooperative with giving me milkable patterns either. So, if all goes well, I can see a score of over 250 million being possible with my current patterns. I'll mark that as my new goal.

Pork Up! New Momo score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I decided to give Momo a try in Ver 1.00 as I've enjoyed developing patterns for her in Ver 1.01. The result is the below score (175,583,620). The run went fairly well though I fumbled my way through many parts and missed the "cash in" in quite a few lucrative spots. I like Momo's speed the best among the three characters, but her shot and lard attack feel the weakest to me. I think I will focus on Rafute and Ikuo for the near future. For reference, the world record with Momo is a bit over 260 million, so my score is rather mediocre.

Pork Up! New Rafute Score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

My Rafute PB increased by about 3 million to 165,594,520 in my latest run. Unlike last time I scored on all phases of the final boss, but my scoring in the stages was considerably lower. Stages 1 and 2 were quite poor in particular. On the bright side I have learned how to milk the stage 3 and 4 bosses fairly well with her.

Pork Up! New Rafute score (Muchi Muchi Pork! Ver 1.00)

I increased my PB (Personal Best) with Rafute tonight, getting a score of 162,810,810. This is playing on Ver 1.00 in the Xbox 360 port, which is equivalent to the original arcade version. I made a number of errors and failed to score on all three phases of the last boss, costing me around 10 million, so my current goal is 175~180 million. I'm still working on Ikuo too, my current goal with her is 200 million and currently my PB is a little over 186 million. It's difficult to decide which goal to focus on first, and I still have all of my Ver 1.01 and Matsuri Ver scores to improve too. It seems like I could play this game forever!

Tilting at Windmills

This is the inaugural post of my blog. I chose the title "Tilting at Windmills" because it refers to attacking imaginary enemies and when I play video games that's pretty much what I am doing. Plus, it has a nice ring to it.

Recently I have been playing Muchi Muchi Pork! (the exclamation point seems to be required) on my Xbox 360. I like how each credit feels slightly different, as there are unpredictable elements each time you play. Most of my scores in this game are already on the xbox live leaderboards (username: awo79), but I will post my new scores here as I get them.

I also play a lot of platformers, Japanese RPGs and a few other shmups. I suppose I will post thoughts on those as well, in due time.
